Catnip (Nepeta cataria) is a herbaceous plant known for its aromatic leaves, featuring a scent that attracts cats. It belongs to the mint family and produces small, tubular, white or lavender flowers. The compound responsible for the cat's reaction is nepetalactone, which can induce temporary euphoria in felines.
Catnip (Nepeta cataria) typically grows to a height of 2 to 3 feet (60 to 90 cm). The leaves are heart-shaped, toothed, and covered in fine hairs, giving them a fuzzy texture. The plant produces small, tubular flowers arranged in spikes, usually white with purple spots or lavender in color. Catnip is hardy and can thrive in various soil types and climates. It's known for its rapid growth and ability to spread. The active compound, nepetalactone, is found in the leaves, stems, and seeds, contributing to its effects on cats.
To sow catnip seeds:
1. Timing: Plant catnip seeds indoors about 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost in your area.
2. Container: Use seed trays or small pots with well-draining soil.
3. Sowing Depth: Sow the seeds on the soil surface and lightly press them in, as catnip seeds require light for germination.
4. Moisture: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
5. Temperature: Catnip seeds germinate best in temperatures around 70°F (21°C).
6. Light: Ensure the trays or pots receive plenty of light, either natural sunlight or artificial light.
7. Germination: Catnip seeds typically germinate within 7-14 days.
8. Transplanting: Once seedlings have developed a few sets of leaves, transplant them into larger containers or directly into your garden.
9. Spacing: If planting in the garden, space catnip plants about 18-24 inches apart.
10. Care: Catnip is relatively low-maintenance. Water the plants when the soil feels dry, and provide well-draining soil.
With proper care, your catnip plants should thrive and be ready for your feline friends to enjoy.

However, because successful growth depends on various factors beyond our control—such as planting conditions, weather, and care—we cannot offer refunds for seeds, corms, or bulbs that do not germinate or sprout.
Thank you for your understanding and support. If you have any questions about planting or care, we’re happy to help!
