Bachelor Buttons Classic Romantic flowers, also known as cornflowers, are cherished for their charming and delicate blooms, featuring a mesmerizing blend of creamy blush, pink, and white. These annuals are relatively easy to grow, thriving in full sun and well-drained soil, making them a popular choice for gardeners of all skill levels. With a typical height of 12 to 36 inches, they are versatile enough to be used in borders, mass plantings, or as filler flowers in mixed garden beds. The vivid and playful colors of Classic Romantic cornflowers attract a variety of pollinators, including bees and butterflies, contributing to a healthy garden ecosystem. Known for their long-lasting blooms, they also make excellent cut flowers, adding a splash of color to floral arrangements and bouquets. Additionally, Bachelor Buttons are steeped in folklore, traditionally symbolizing love and abundance, making them a delightful addition to any garden.
This variety is a mix of blush pink, raspberry, cream, and bicolor 2 in. double thistle-like flowers.
Direct sow seeds thinly in rows, 6 seeds per foot, 1/4" deep, as soon as soil can be worked. Cover lightly. Keep soil surface moist until emergence. When seedlings have first true leaves, thin to 6-9" apart.
To start indoors: Sow 3-4 weeks before last frost. Transplant into cell packs or larger containers when the first true leaves appear. Grow at 50-55°F (10-12°C) during the night for several weeks to develop a root ball.
